You did not tell what type of music will be your preference when playing the guitar!.
The acoustic guitars have a body(box cavity) to reproduce the
sound of the vibrating strings!. There are two types:
Nylon strings guitars : prefered by musicians that play "classical" music because of the mellower sound of nylon strings!.
Steel strings guitars : prefered by folk and blues, etc!. musicians because of the "brighter" sound of the steel strings!.
Then there is the "flat-board" electric guitar that needs external amplification via a power amplifier unit!. This is the prefer instrument of most (but not all) rock guitar players!.
The "flat-board" guitar is made mostly of non-wood material so
we don't need to discuss that!.
The acoustics (nylon and steel strings) is made 99% out of some
kind of wood!. This is where the price goes along with the material used!. Most acoustic with solid-wood tops start around
$250!. and up!. Below $250!. you can get very good and dependable instruments (both nylon strings or steel strings)
that can serve you well!. I will shy away from any instrument sold
new for under $100!. I will clasified them as"glorified toys" UNLESS is a size under 4/4 (full size) where you can still get
good playability from a 3/4 size guitar around $100!.
As far as Guitar Center I would just look at what they have in your style and budget and TRY more than one to have a "feel"
for the instrument!.
Make a decision on what is confortable to you not what the sales person is trying to sell you!. If you don't find anything to your liking try some very reliable web music stores for guitars of all types!.
Just type "I want to buy a guitar" and you will be bombarded with
lots of web pages about stores selling guitars!.
Most web stores are honest dealers with return policies that you
can review as well as talk over the phone with their staff!.

Good Luck and Enjoy whatever guitar you get!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here's a decent guitar to start with, from Ibanez:

http://www!.guitarcenter!.com/Ibanez-V-Ser!.!.!.

I gave you both the musician's friend listing and the guitar center listing!. It gets rated fairly high for a guitar in its price range!. You'll want to add a case; that's extra!.

That's an acoustic electric; you can play it without amplification or if you ever get an amp you can plug it in!.

Here' s a great book to get you started:

Good luck and welcome to the wonderful world of guitar!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Here's what I would recommend because;
you won't have to buy an amplifier, you don't need to find an electrical outlet, it's good quality at acheap price and you can later buy an electric & amp if you wish and keep this!.

Note that it has all you need for an acoustic guitar, solid top , fair tone , playable neck!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
