Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: dude, honestly, just go sit in a basement, listen to zeppelin records with your friends, pick up your guitars and just jam everyday untill you get unbelievable!.!.!.it will take maybe a year of playing everyday!.!.!.when i first started, i would sit around with my friends and play for like 5 hours a day, no joke!!.!.!.have fun with it man, good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com Sorry, but if you have to ask, you're probably not ready yet!. You need to know the keys, so you know what they're talking about when they say what key a song is in!. You also need to know how to form chords, and not just memorize a few, especially if you're playing rhythem!. Just sit down for a while with whoever'll be playing lead, and just jam with them by making up chord progressions for them to solo over!. If you get to be good at that, then you're ready for a band!.Www@QuestionHome@Com I'm no expert, so I'm sorry, but this is my opinion: You need to know different keys (not just chords, but KEY signatures), so if someone says, "This solo will be in A minor," you should be thinking "No sharps or flats"!. You should also be able to read music (treble clef mainly) and know what note is where on your guitar!. For example, if you see that a note is located in the middle of the staff for the treble clef, you should be able to identify it as B, and then know that it is an open second string!. I'm suggesting this not to make you feel badly, but to show you how much work being in a band can be!. You don't want to be a liability to your band!. You want your band to be the greatest it can be!. But before that, YOU need to be the greatest musician you can be!.Www@QuestionHome@Com You will never know unless you try it out!. I just jumped in with the few songs that i wrote and started a band but i have been playing with those songs for few years!. You just have to get that uncomfortable stage out of the way then you will feel ready!. I tried not to learn any covers when i was starting out, i wanted to find my own sound!. I think the best way for you is to just jam and let loose and see what you get, then just go with that sound!.
