Well i don't know what your current level is, but judging from your name i would say you like the Beatles and classic rock!. "Basically" this is what you need to know!. You need to learn to read guitar tab first it makes things easier!. And then:

1!. CHORDS: A, Am, A7, B, Bm, B7, Bm7, C, Cm, C7, D, Dm, D7, E, Em, E7, F, Fm, F7, G, Gm, G7---and all the sharps\flats in between those chords!. So roughly about 30 in all!. You also need to know the power and barre chord equivalent of these chords!.
!.
2!. SCALES: For rock and blues you can pretty much do everything with the Pentatonic Scale!. It is used in 95% of rock songs!. Just start off by learning the "box pattern"!. When using a scale to solo on a song if the song is in A major then you would use the A pentatonic major scale!. If the song is in A minor use the A pentatonic minor scale!. Real easy!.

3!. TECHNIQUE: The techniques you will need to learn are:
a!. hammer-ons
b!. pull-offs
c!. sliding up or down the string
d!. bending (half-step, whole, extended, unison, stationary)
e!. harmonics, and artificial or "pinch"

All this will get you started and probably take at least a year or 2 to get used to!. There is more (different scales, chords, advanced techniques) but this will definitely make you a good guitarist if you master the above!. For the chords and scales you can use this website:

And for the Tecniques you can get more in-depth articles on each technique using this website:
