That'll help for the most part!. Besides, music for the mellophone is written on F, not B-flat like your trumpet, so you won't have to be able to read transcriptions!. If it's written in B-flat, then play your trumpet instead!.

But it does help to know!. B-flat instruments are based off B-flat major (E-flat and B-flat) while F instruments are based off F major (B-flat)!. It's relatively simple; key of C (concert B-flat) for your trumpet is key of F (concert B-flat!) for the mellophone, and so you simply move two whole tones and one semitone down from written trumpet music to your mellophone (G on trumpet is D on mellophone, I think)!.

I may be wrong, so next time you're around the music provider, ask or search for a Horn in F part (sometimes just "Horn", as it's the most common) and if the trumpet and horn have the same melody (as in they are the same concert pitch notes), you can analyze and see how B-flat transposes to F!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If it is in F or G, Lets see, I am not an expert but let me put it in example: To play the same thing on a trumpetBb to a C instrument count how many steps are in between, for this example 2 have steps, so a C on a flute is a D on a trumpet!.

Using this, for a F Mellophone you must count what are the steps between the trumpet and the horn!. A C on a trumpetBb is (7 half steps believe), check if it is a G, if not just hear your trumpet and renember the note, and try to search by mabye using the chromatic scale!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
