Question: Learning an instrument!?
Well the thing is I don't know how to ask my parents if I can get saxophone lessons, I have always found the instrument very interesting and love jazz!. But i've already recently started taking Tennis lessons and already asked my mom to sign me up for Japanese lessons over the summer break!. I don't know if I should ask but I want to and I don't want to wait because then I heard it's harder to learn and by the way i'm 13 almost 14!. What should I do!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I say go for it!. Do what you want to do, and if your parents complain tell them this: "Mom, Dad, I know I'm doing alot of stuff lately, but, I really am passionate about learning the (enter what ever type of saxophone you want to learn here)!." And it sounds like they're serious about your education as well, and if they say no, try not to get to smart with them and just say "Well (this is actually true), They say that people who play instrument usually do better with their education, mainly math!."

They should yes by then!. But if you really have the passion for it, and they still say no!. This is what you can do, try to prove that your really passionate about it by getting a job, and saving up for a sax!. And I bet you by the time you're close to having the right amount of money for a sax, You parent's will help you out, and say "Yes!." I did this trick when I was in high school to get my parents to buy me a car, and it really worked!.

Anyway, I've played Baritone sax, and a Contrabass sax since my freshman year in high school, and it's really not that hard to learn!. I would really recommend learning the alto sax if you're a beginner, because the alto is the probably the easiest to learn on!. There's only 6 main keys, and once you start learning articulation and ombeture (sorry if I spelled that wrong, I could never learn how to spell it correctly), you'll be upright and playing the sax in no time!.

You're taking Japanese!? Well good luck to you, Japanese is very hard to learn (Just how learning English was hard for me to learn as a native Japanese)!.

You are not too old to start!. Enrollment in many schools is declining!. That means that the enrollment in music programs is also declining!. A band director is very likely to embrace your enthusiasm, and want you in his/her program!. Find out about rental programs that are available, as well as private lessons!.

Find out if your school has a summer music program!. If so, the lessons will either be free, or they will be offered at a very nominal fee!.

If you have friends that are in the music program at your school, perhaps one of them either plays the saxophone, or is friends with someone who does play it!.

If none of the above scenarios is available, you will have to wait until school starts again!. Alas, all is not lost! Listen to as much saxophone music as you can!.!.!. and, don't limit yourself to any one idiom!. Try to find a few saxophone players who have a sound that you really like, and listen to as much of their music as possible!. This will give you a sound model to shoot for when you are finally able to start playing!.

It sounds like you are goal oriented!. Find a way to make this happen!.!.!. and, don' t be afraid to ask your parents!. Maybe taking Japanese or Tennis isn't as important to you as you had originally thought!?

Best of luck to you!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You are still young enough to start the sax!. Just ask your parents!. Maybe after summer you can sign up for band at your school!. I started learning the flute in 7th grade and did very well!. Good luck with the Japanese lessens!. Maybe you could forgo the Japanese lessons if you haven't signed up yet!. Go to a good music store and ask about renting a saxaphone and if they offer lessons!. That would be a good way to start if you don't want to wait for school to start!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Granted it's better that you start young, not doing so, however, will not in any way hinder your ability to pick up the instrument later on!. If you really want to start as soon as possible, it's just the matter of sorting out your priorities!. Do you really like tennis just as much as learning the sax!? Could saxophone lessons wait after Japenese lessons!? I say go for it!. What's the harm in asking!? Are you scared of their reactions!? Rejection, maybe!? Whatever it is, I hope you get it together!. Learning an instrument is a great thing!. It's never too late start!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you can never be to old to play an instrument!. Just politely ask mom can I learn to play the saxophone!? Just tell her that you found the instrument interesting and you love jazz!. believe me your parents will be amazed that you are so interested in learning a musical instrument!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

just ask!. but ask nicely!. tell them your concerns!. how you know you've asked for a lot but you were wondering if you could do this too, or maybe in a little bit!? you don't sound spoiled just intersting in a lot of activities and i'm sure your parents will see that tooWww@QuestionHome@Com

If you don't ask, you don't get!. Even if you have to sacrifice one of your other interests, I recommend playing any musical instrument!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
