Question: Different suggestions for acoustic strings other than Elixirs!?
I play a Taylor 414CE and I have used Elixir Polyweb Lights or Extra Lights religiously for four years, but I'm looking for something with a little less treble!. Once I tried D'Addario EXP strings, but I was highly disappointed and replaced them the next day with Elixirs!. I have also tried Ernie Ball Earthwood strings, but they just didn't seem to compare to Elixirs!. Can anyone recommend a high quality similar string to use that will have more of a mid-range sound and not so much treble!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Look for strings that are nickel or nickel plated!. This has less sharp treble content then normal steel strings!.

I've included a link below where a guy discusses different string formulations!. The information fits with what I've experienced as well!.

Coated strings don't sound as good as uncoated strings most of the time - but when you compare Elixirs to cheaper strings like Ernie Balls or some such they definitely come out on top!. For people like me who don't like to change strings too often *and* who tend to sweat on stage, they're the way to go!. Some compromises I'm willing to make!. =)

GHS, Martin, and D'Addario (among others) also make high-quality strings!. Keep trying them until you find the ones you like!. I think the ones with phosphor bronze might emphasize the treble less, at least they did for me on my Martin OM-45!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
