To quote a popular book used in many Suzuki teacher training courses, "They're rarely too young!.!.!.and never too old "to twinkle!" Having started using the Suzuki method myself, I am partial to that method as the best way to learn, however most methods will produce fantastic results if the student is dedicated (which it sounds like you are)!. And while I myself started young, during the course of my five years at music conservatories, I encountered numerous people that did not start until much later in life!. In fact one of the best violinists I attended school with started music when he was 15!
So no, it is absolutely not too late for you to start playing violin, nor is it too late for you to dream of playing in an orchestra!. In my opinion, it is the most fantastic dream anyone could possibly have!
As far as practicing, talk with your teacher about how to make the best use of your time!. An hour sounds about right, but making the best use of the time is always going to yield better results than if you practice "lazily!." Make sure you are focusing on what you are practicing, and not just mindlessly playing pieces!.
If you have the desire, anything is possible!. There is no reason why you would not be able to have a career as a musician just because you started later than someone else!. Dream big and you'll see what can happen!

You've got a pretty good average time of playing your instrument per day!.

And no, it's definitely not too late!. If you were thirty years old I would still say it's not too late!. You've got a lot of time ahead of you in your life, and if you keep trying and practicing, you'll become really good at it!. I just started playing violin a couple days ago, even though I'm not at all used to string instruments (I can play woodwinds pretty well and a bit of brass), but I still have confidence in myself!.

Don't give up! Keep trying and you shall succeed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I started teaching myself fiddle by ear when I was about 33!. I'm now 50 and playing in a bluegrass band (not as a fulltime job, but still, playing for audiences now and again)!.

If I can teach myself starting in my 30's you can certainly start with lessons at 14!. How good you get and how far you advance will depend on your innate natural talents and how much time you're willing to put in to your musical studies!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's never too late to start practicing music, as long as you practice fiercely!.
The key to keeping interested and passonate though, is to play songs that you find beautiful or moving!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Never too late, as long as you enjoy it and practice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
