Snap! I play the flute too and i also play the saxaphone now!!
The saxaphone is a great instrument when you get pretty good and it sounds great with jazzy pieces!.
Playing the sax does take up alot of breath and you don't want to over do it by playing for hours and then ending up fainting and feeling sick, but because you've got the flute background your breathing system will allready have good suport, so you should start with about 1/2 hour to 45 mins a day and when you start to get used to it more then you can do about i hour or so!. The more you practice the better you will get and you will soon be playing jazz!!

Practicing a little bit every day is much more helpful than cramming a few days a week or right before your lesson!. If you can do a good 20-30 a day, that's awesome, but if not, at least sit down and play one scale and one song you like- that way you're not backtracking every time you sit down!. More than a day or two off from even touching the instrument erases anything you accomplished from the previous practice session!.

Make sure you are comfortable playing through the "break" and that your tone is clear!. If your goal is to play jazz, make sure you are listening to a lot of good saxophone jazz- it will help train your ear for what to listen for!.

Don't let your flute chops down the tube either- there are opportunities to play jazz flute too, and if you can do both, the better off you are!
