You should start by getting a new reed!. A split reed generally won't play!. I would suggest a #2 reed to get you started, put it in your mouth to moisten it while you put the instrument together, then put it on the mouthpiece, with the top being equal to the very top of the mouthpiece!. The reed should be facing down, toward your bottom lip!. Make sure to cover the the holes for the thumb, and 3 finger holes for your left hand!. (Left hand is on top)
Put the mouthpiece about an inch into your mouth and blow, do not bite down, as this will prevent the airflow and you won't get any sound!. I might also suggest getting an instruction book from your local music store, where you get the new reed should have one!. Good luck!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
