When I was a kid we would sit down as a family and sing John Denver and old folk songs while my mom played the guitar!. I suppose that's where it started, but it wasn't until I was 18 that I started to actively pursue playing guitar!.

I scoured the internet for what information I could find, learned a few things, and kinda just went from there!. I can still remember a distinct feeling of pride when I learned the intro riff to Death's "Pull the Plug" and later Smashing Pumpkin's "Disarm"!.

I've taught myself the whole way, but I've tried to jam with others as much as possible, even when I was in over my head!. Try to learn something from everyone, that's the ticket if you're going to do it the hard way (ie, no teacher)!. I taught myself music theory, and that makes a huge difference in understanding how riffs match up, harmony, that kind've thing!. Things have changed a lot in the last decade - information is out there that I could only have wished to have gotten my hands on back then!.

My motivation is this - making music is how I can feel beautiful!.

Everyone should have the chance to feel beautiful in their own way - mine is through writing and playing music, and knowing that someone else is there with me, in that moment, feeling what I'm feeling, moving how I'm moving, and feeling that same melody shoot through them!. Being in the moment with the music - man, that's where it's at!

I was motivated by a group called The Ventures!. When I heard the song 'Walk don't Run', from that point I wanted to master the guitar and actually, won my first guitar contest with a $79 guitar!.
Then I studied by myself , listened to a lot of intrumentals and playing along with it!.
This gave me excellent ear training and timing!. Now, I love to repair them because I knwo how it feels to play on an instrument that isn't working properly!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

self taught!. A friend showed me the "power chord" and I was sold!. That was over 15 yeas ago and I have taught myself bass, guitar, and percussion!. Learning music on your own is tough but I learn something new almost every time I pick up an instrument!. My motivation was really self expression!. Nothing makes me feel more alive than when I'm up on stage!Www@QuestionHome@Com
