Question: Been playing cello for 10 years and still rubbish at it!?
I've been playing the cello for 10 years!. I'm currently in year 9, and am on Grade 4!.

Someone is joining our school in year 7, and she's grade 8!.

I'm so upset at this!. Everyones better than me!. I'm still only second desk in an orchestra I've been playing in for years!.

Apart from practise, can anyone tell me how to improve!? Do I need a private teacher!? Simply more practise!?

Many thanks xxxWww@QuestionHome@Com

For one, don't compare yourself much against other people!. Some people are more gifted at certain music instruments than others!. People are really impressed by me because I can play about 8 different instruments to at least a high school level!. Prince (the rock star) can play over 20!. Am I jeleous or upset!? No!.
Yes, I would recommend a private lesson teacher!. They can correct incorrect techniques, lead you to and through exercises that will help you advance quicker and fix areas you are weak at!. They have years of experience playing and probably teaching (depends on the teacher) and can help you become better quicker!. I bet if you polled all the students you are in school with who are better, the majority will have a private lesson teacher!. I know that every student I have was on the lower end of their section, and within a few months of lessons they were near or at the top of the section because they had someone fixing mistakes they didn't know they were making and pushing them to improve more than school music ever did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

private teachers are good but that's besides the point!. if you've been playing that long you obviously love it and don;t compare yourself just do your best and enjoy doing it!Www@QuestionHome@Com
