Question: For guitar: Is it easier for a beginner to learn to play with an open tuning!?
I'm just starting to learn to play acoustic guitar - but I have really short fingers for an adult, and find it hard to play some of the basic chords!. Would it be easier to learn how to play using an open D or open G tuning!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

In one sense it is easier to learn to play in open tunings!. But it probably isn't the best approach to take!. Even accomplished players who now mainly now play in open tunings started in standard tuning!. Check out Lawerence Juber and Pierre Bensusan for an idea of what I'm talking about!.

Another player to check out is Muriel Anderson!. She's a petite woman with small hands who's a smokin' player!.

Beginning players frequently have trouble playing chords because they're not using the correct hand positions!. If at all possible take at least a few lessons to get on the right track with technique!. It's easier to learn good habits than it is to unlearn bad ones!. The photos in the link below will give you an idea about correct hand position!.

Hang in there, playing guitar is a lot of fun!Www@QuestionHome@Com

no no no no!! I say that because once you learn how to make all the chords with that paticular tuning them all the scales and all the chord diagrams will not work for you! you would have to have diffrent fingering posistions which would not be good! My advice to you would be to make sure that you are not "hugging" the neck with your hand (gripping)!! And be sure that you have correct hand posture(make sure that your thumb is on the back of the neck but farthest down, closest to the bottom string! that way you have plenty of room for your chords\scales!!
but i wouldnt LEARN how to play guitar using relative tuning!. Now, it is nice when you are doing some sliide guitar, makes it a bit easier! But no, i woulnt actually learn doing that!!

hope this helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

STOP!.!.!.!. and then go hire a GUITAR TEACHER!.!.!. if you keep going the way you are going, you will pick up too many bad habits and NEVER be a really good guitar player!. You need a Teacher for at least the first few lessons, just to get you started off right!.!.!. since you are obviously already in trouble!.!.!. don't go any further until someone gets you straightened out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

NO!. As a beginner, it is your goal to learn to play; choosing an open tuning will keep you from learning to play!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
