The more instruments you can double on, the greater your worth in the real world!

so, in answer to your questions;
1!. a few fingerings are the same, many are similar
2!. The biggest transition issue is one of air use and embouchure!. Oboe uses alot less air than flute-you will have to relearn breathing and support for oboe!. As for embouchure, get one medium soft oboe reed & try to get a sound out of just the reed (have one of the current oboeists show you proper embouchure)!. If you cant get a sound, oboe may be beyond your ability for now,!.!.!.
3!. used oboe!? try Hut Music in yorba linda, california!. Their whole busines is based on refurbished instruments!.
I also suggest you try wwbw!.com & see if you can afford a new one as its usually a better investment!. (at least you will know what new ones go for)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I play the flute too :)

Most clarinet players switch to oboe cuz it's slightly similar, but I wouldn't suggest a flute switching to oboe!. Though the notes are the same (B flat concert pitch) the embeuchoure (sorry I spelled that wrong) and the fingerings are WAY different!. A girl in my class switched from clarinet to oboe, and she says it's really hard!. The sound isn't too pleasant and it's hard to play!.

I suggest you switch to piccolo-- now that has the same fingerings, and is a lot easier!.

Good luck :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

it would be easier for a clarinet to switch to oboe, but a flute is in a similar register!.
