Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
It developed from lute tuning and the first guitars in Spain in the 17th century!. Originally tuned in fourths, (EADGCF) but with many variations, (like fifths - but the high strings couldn't take the tension) the idea of dropping the treble strings to B and E to make chording easier slowly became the most common tuning taught to students!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

That is only true for EUROPEAN standards!.!.!. the strings of Asian instruments are tuned to FOURTHS!. Obviously you don't read music because those EADGBE strings are based of the written music scale and on MATHEMATICS!.!.!. because all music is MATHEMATICAL in nature!.!.!. It's just a matter of conviction!.!.!. it all goes back to the tuning of the Pianoforte many centuries ago!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
