Question: I have a good voice and feel bad I'm not using it!. Where should I start!?
I'm known for having a very pretty voice, but the whole "look at me" personality eludes me!. I don't know how to get myself out there and say, "Hey world, I can sing!." I don't want to be famous and I don't want to just get attention!. But I love to sing and I want to use it!. It's just such a flashy talent!. My family turned me off of it for a while by trying to make me Celine Dion from an early age, so i ran from it!. But now I miss it!. Any suggestions on where and how to go about it!? What do I say!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go to a music store and look at the bulletin boards!. Often people will put up notices about tryouts for a cappella choirs, madrigal groups etc!. There are also church choirs, lots of people sing in those without necessarily being hugely religious!. Or you could put up your own notice: good singer available!

Meanwhile, you really should learn to play piano or guitar, and to sightread music, if you don't already!. That way you can accompany yourself while you practice!. Learn a whole bunch of songs and be open to many styles, especially folk as it's very accessible and the foundation of most pop songs!.

It's nice to know there's a good voice out there! Good luck and please don't limit your repertoire to pop!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have no real answer for you, but I wanted to tell you that I am in the exact same position!. I really want to be a singer, but I'm scared of the attention, and I have a lot of trouble "performing" because I have a hard time believing that people really want to hear me!. Thats my issue with it anyway!.
I've been hiding out singing in choirs most of my life!. If you're really good you may even be able to get a job as a ringer!. (Thats when you sing as a normal choir member but get paid on the side because your sound helps the group!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com
