Question: Baritone ukulele vs guitar!?
okay, well i've just recently discovered that they are tuned D-G-B-E, matching the tuning of the top four strings of a guitar!.
does that mean that i can just play the top four strings of a guitar like i would with uke!?
or do they produce different sounds!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes it will be the same notes but at a higher frequency!.

Another interesting note is that if you put a Capo or Bar accross the 5th fret of the guitar you "convert" those 4 strings into a the notes GCEA just like the Tenor Ukulele!.
The nice thing about the GCEA tuning is that lots of chord music for the ukulele is written with that tuning in mind!.

Another point: If you go to a music store looking for Ukulele songbooks for the Baritone it is likely that you find almost all
the uke songbooks published are for the Soprano Uke
(the smallest of all 4 Uke sizes)!.

No Problem!.You could ignore the chord names on the books
and PLAY THE FINGERING for the GCEA Uke on your Baritone and it will sound perfectly fine!. The sound produced
just be a fourth Lower than written!.

Likewise the reverse is true!. A songbook written for Baritone
Uke played on a GCEA Uke will sound just fine, ignore the chord names just use the fingering shown for the DBGE Uke!.
The only difference is that the song will sounda fourth Higher than written!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, you certainly can play the top four strings the same!. They WILL sound different tonally, but they ARE the same notes!.
