Both of those are good answers!. However, this is what you NEED to know:

- The tip of the mouthpiece is what the reed vibrates against!. It's what makes the sound, and it's also the easiest part to screw up!. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY! Each piece can have either good or bad qualities!. Each Selmer C* does not sound like the next!.
- YOU are the primary contributor to your tone and volume!. I used a Bundy mouthpiece that came with my first horn through highschool!. The honor bands thought it sounded great!. I really like the tenor piece that my friend found on the bandroom floor!. Whatever piece you buy, your air control and (believe it or not) the individuality of the contours of your mouth are what will make YOUR sound!.
- This all being said, there is NO mouthpiece that is perfect for all sax players!. It's completely individual!. The best mouthpiece for you is the one that gets the best sound with the least amount of effort!.

Sorry for the book, but I've wasted money on mouthpieces before due to impatience, or foolishness, or both!. I'd hate to see anyone waste up to $100 for a second crappy mouthpiece, you know!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Depends on what type of music you want to play!. If it's jazz, I recommend Meyer 5M!. For concert band, go for the Selmer C*!. These are both inexpensive, and well-rounded mouthpieces!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Go with Yamaha, man!. I play alto!. Good quality for a mere 40-50 bucks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
