Question: Could it be possible to play the piano in a marching band!?
Like the keyboard on the sidelines!.!.!.by the xylophones!.!.!.I'm sure that's possible, but what about if you are marching in a parade or something!? Are there pianos light enough that you can carry with a chest or shoulder strap!? Or do xylophones march in parades, even!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
yes!. its called the BELLS!.

most piano players in band will play bells in marching!. it has the same set up as piano, but all the "black" keys are on the upper half, I'm assuming you're in high school or younger, colleges wont march a piano because there is no room for it in the music!. no one composes marches with piano part!. you'd end up playing a bell part, and then you might as well just play bells then!.

and the sound!. you know how if its a soft clarinet soli, a random trumpet doesn't sound good with it!? same pertains to piano, it really has no part in marching band, it just doesn't have the right sound!.

not to mention, if you're actually marching, and you have to keep on step, it would be rather difficult to roll along a piano or xylophone!. and as it rolls along, you risk hitting things on the ground and dropping the intrument!.

but if your director says you can do it, you can rig up a battery powered keyboard on to a bell carrier!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are strap-on keyboards - meant to be played in front of a rock band, indoors!. And there is mallet percussion that you can play with shoulder rigs, that you can play in marching band!. Marching with an electric keyboard!? Not that I know of - and it is my business to know!. This reminds me of the scene in the Woody Allen movie "take the Money and Run" - where Woody plays cello in the marching band - and gets trampled - and his glasses broken !. !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think that would be quite difficult considering you would have to be a little distance from the keyboard to even be able to play it!. also, how would you make it loud enough!? you would need one to operate on batteries too!. It would be interesting!. i have never seen one!. i doubt it is realistic for a marching band!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

we have keyboards for marching band!. and we don't march piano in parades!. we only have the drumline and a few cymbols and the rest of the band!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps if you get them for portable, but the public would not be used to the sound!. Ask the music teaxher, and she will give you the answer!.

It also depends on which schoolWww@QuestionHome@Com
