OK so!.!.!.!.x is now meant that you don't play that string, you don't pluck it, don't touch it, you don't do anything with it!.!.!.!.it just mustn't ring!.

However, the third chord you wrote here, the G major chord!.!.!.!.well in this case it is impossible to leave that string completely untouched since, as you can see, it is between two strings that are supposed to be plucked!. But the string mustn't ring anyway, so do it like this: press the 3rd fret of the bottom E string (the hardest one) with you THUMB, and also touch the A string with it and press it, but only a little bit!.!.!.enough so that it doesn't ring when plucked, just produces some kind of muted tone!. Now strum!.

To strum or to pluck!?!?!?!.!.!.That's a question:D!.!.!.In this case you'd better strum, but sometimes it's up to you!. It depends on how you want the chord to sound!.

The 'x' issue again:
1, when written in tabs, it means that you mute the string with your left hand (just like in funky music, or in Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child)!.!.!.!.in the first two chords you wrote!.!.!.it's meant differently however, as if it were!.!.!.
2, in the chord chart!. Here an 'x' written above the chart/box means that nothing is done with the string!.!.!.not muted, not played!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

imagine you're holding your guitar and looking down at it

the small 'e' is the smallest (last) string on the guitar and the big 'E' is the first string on the guitar!.
the numbers represent the frets!.

so the first column of numbers would mean you have to "clip" all the strings on the 2nd fret with your 2nd finger, 3rd finger on the the B string in the 3rd fret, and the rest of your fingers on the G and D strings!.

and the 2nd column of numbers means you put 3 of your fingers on the B, G, and D strings in the 2nd fret, etc!.

you can google "how to read guitar tabs" and it should give you a clearer idea since i'm not that good at explaining!.

good luck! =)Www@QuestionHome@Com

The X signifies that the string is muted, or not played in your A chord in the 2nd example!.

In the following example the X on the G string would signify that you would hit that string as well as well as the others, with a pick even, but you would not be fretting anything, in fact, you would be muting it!. This is string muting!.

To string mute you would simply rest a finger, even a part of another finger, onto the specific string notified!. For example the tab!.!.!.

E--------
B---3----
G---X----
D---3----
A--------
E--------
Would mean that you would fret the appropriate strings, and for example, if you fretted the strings in the following fashion
3rd fret on D string fretted by Middle finger
3rd fret on B string fretted by Ring finger
You could move your middle finger down to lightly make contact and touch the string, just enough to stop it from ringing out!.

Your first example,a Bm barre chord, it can also be played as follows!.
e--2--
B--3--
G--4--
D--4--
A--2--
E--2--Www@QuestionHome@Com

depending on any additional instructions the chords may be plucked or strummed or even resguiados as there is no standard to define these things in guitar tablature witch is a hack way invented to notate music for people tool azy to learn to read sheet music witch would allow the notation of all specifics necessary to know how a piece was nintendod to be played in axact notation for normal people who learn to read music when they play a instrument instead of relieing on some hack method thatcan't actually express the nessary nuanseances of the piece because they usually just lerning sum pop garbage evrybuddy heard like 10000000times all ready before and any one not tone def cuold of figerred it out by ear anyways cuz it's only laik one or two or thre chords in the struktur of thet pop swill anyways and anybuddy wit i q over siksty wod of known how to finger it buy ear anyways so it doen'st meen u can't play it anny way u wont if you get know ansers any qvikkerWww@QuestionHome@Com

The x means that it's muted, you don't play it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually, the "x's" mean that you should mute that string because it is a non chord tone!. If I am reading this properly, (I don't generally use tablature) the first set is a barred chord!. You lay your first finger across the second fret of the first five strings, put your second finger on the third fret of the second string, and put your third and fourth fingers on the fourth fret of the third and fourth strings!. (most people reverse the order of the fingers 4 and then three but do whatever seems the most comfortable to you of course) This will give you a B minor chord with the B in the bass!.

The interesting thing is that if you extend your first finger all the way across to the sixth string, you would get an F# on that sixth string, which is a chord tone!. I don't know what song you are trying to play here, but it may not call for the fifth in the bass, or the person who made up the Tablature might have had trouble getting that sixth string to sound clearly and just left it out!.

The second set is a simple A major chord with no fifth in the bass again!. Just mute the sixth string or avoid it while you are strumming or fingerpicking (again, your option and I don't know what song this is so it would be hard to advise you either way) By the way, you can play that by putting your first, second and third fingers on the second fret of the second, third and fourth strings!. Most people play this chord 1 - 3 - 2!. I play it 1 - 2 - 3 because I tend to slide all over the neck with it!. You can even play it 3 - 2 - 1 if it is more comfortable!. I personally recommend learning all three fingerings as they all come in useful at some point!.

The third set is a power G chord!. The fifth string, A is definitely a non chord tone and many people object to having the third in the bass (second fret, B) so they will leave it out entirely!. So, if you put your second finger on the third fret of the sixth string, your third finger on the third fret of the second string, and your fourth finger on the third fret of the first string, you will get a G chord with no third!.

There are two ways to address the x issue, as I have previously stated!. Either mute the string with some leftover finger in the left hand, or avoid the string with your right hand, your pick, or whatever you are using to make the strings vibrate (an Ebow!?)

Best of luck no matter what you decide and I hope that this rather long winded explanation was actually of some help to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
