Of course you're not "too late"!. My friend is 53 and is starting to learn!. If she can do it, so can you!.

Any instrument is going to be challenging!. That's kind of the point of it, I think!. But the rewards you will reap from playing music are amazing, and you will not be sorry about the time and effort you invest!.

So, as for starting: Definitely work with a private teacher!. Teaching yourself usually isn't going to work out for you!. You will probably end up doing something wrong and hampering your abilities!. A teacher can start you in the right direction, then correct you as you go along!. Ask at the local music store, and they can probably give you a list of names and numbers of people in your area!. Call a few and talk with them a little, explain to them your situation, and have a lesson or two with one you seem to like!. See if it works out, and if it does start going regularly, or if not, try another teacher!.

Every teacher is going to teach differently!. Personally, I reccommend(and use for my own students) "All For Strings" books, but "Essential Elements" is fairly good, and I'm sure there's more books and programs out there!. Your teacher might have you get a certain book, but I use the All for Strings series, and for beginners, I use the "Violin Note Speller", which I learned out of when I was wee, and I'm not sure it's even in print anymore!. Look for it, though!. It has tons of different exercises for learning to read music!.

also, practice, practice, practice!!! Aim for every single day(this is hard, I know)!. This is pretty much the only way you can get better!. Even as a professional I try to play at least a little bit every day!. It doesn't work out 100% of the time, but I try!.

Most importantly, though, HAVE FUN! If you don't like it, don't do it!. It sounds like you're really really wanting to learn, so I don't think that'll be a problem for you, but it's important to remember anyway!.

Well, I've put in my two cents!. I hope you enjoy violin and that it takes you where you want to go!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its never too late to do something you love!.
I actually played the violin for a good 4 years in elementary for our "instrumentals" subject!. And i liked it!.
Its quite easy to learn considering how good it sounds :)

EDIT: just before you start playing, heres some tips about maintaining good posture for playing the violin:

- Keep the violin horizontal at shoulder height
- Always face the "head" (the skinny part) when playing
- you dont always have to look left or right, just rotate your upper body!.
- You don't ACTUALLY put your chin on the "chin rest"Www@QuestionHome@Com

I started learning the violin at age 35!.!.!.!.!.way older than you!. LOL

It is not an easy instrument to learn and you MUST have a private teacher!. Practise for one hour every day and you will be surprised at how far you get after a few years!.

Have a bit of patience!. Everybody sounds like rubbish for the first six months!. You have to learn how to make a decent sound with the bow and that is the difficult part!.
Knowing where to put your fingers on the fingerboard is a bit tricky at first!.!.!.!.the violin has no frets like on the guitar!. You will soon develop a good sense of pitch and your ears tell you where to put your fingers!.

It is a beautiful instrument ; you will not regret starting the violin but just remember to patient!.

No!.!.!.it's not too late!. That's around the age I started to learn!. You really have to be disciplined and practice a lot to get really good at it, but it's not hard at all!. I have played for about 5 years!. Once you get the notes, keys, and positions down!.!.you're good!. It's not hard at all, just stay focused!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ohhhh it is beautiful!. I learnt when i was around 11 and it took me atleast 5 years to eventually sound clear and impressive!. I wouldn't say 15 is too old, as long as you have alot of patience and a good teacher! It's considered one of the hardest instruments but think of how proud you would be!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Good for you! My daughter started at age 12, and a year and half later, she was first chair!. She practiced 7 days a week!

A hidden benefit to playing an instrument is better grades in math! It's due to how our brain learns music, which is a language all it's own!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

buy all for strings book one for violin at your local music store itll give you a jump start youll know all your notes in a week once that becomes to easy buy book 2 and for 10 bucks and maybe some lessons youll be ahead of some of the kids who didnt follow the booksWww@QuestionHome@Com

it will be harder, but it's never too late!.
because research says that until 12, your brain is still developing so it's easier to learn stuff!. But if you work hard nothing is impossible, and violin is quite easy anyways!.
GOOD LUCKWww@QuestionHome@Com
