I play guitar, and violin and piano!. I've been playing all three for about 15 years!. Guitar is the easiest instrument out of the three!. Piano being the next easiest, and violin being the most difficult!. Violin music (not fiddle style) is in most people's opinions the most beautiful!. Generally classical is the first thing someone thinks of when you say you play the violin!. With piano, its basically the same, although there are many other genres of music played frequently with this instrument!. With guitar however, the music can range from classical to heavy metal, the former being the less played genre!. People think of guitar, and it brings up visions of rock bands, distortion, and loud music!. That is why people don't revere the guitar as much!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

few guitarists make it past the average level while a lot Violinists and piano players do( and cellos, and cellos lol)

I guess it depends on what kind of music you are listening to!. Slash from Guns n' Roses, Carlos Santana, Eric Clapton, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, and Eddie Van Halen all became famous because of their amazing guitar playing - and there are many many others!. :-)Www@QuestionHome@Com

You see!?!?!.!.!.I've got a point here!.!.!.and not to mention that most of them don't play a single instrument and many are tone-deaf!. Now I'll be deducing the results!.

OK so in my opinion, all three are equally diffucult if you wanna play them really well, master them ''completely'' (this is not possible though)!. Now, all three have crappy players not worth anything, decent players, and virtuoso genii who are worthy our worship!. The distribution thereof is equal again, HOWEVER!!!!.!.!.!.

VIOLIN:
Crappy violin players stay stuck in music schools or at homes because nobody wants to listen to their off-tune playing (I think we all know it really well!.!.!.my god!)!.
Decent players play standard roles in orchestras, so you never have the opportunity to hear them playing alone and hear some mistakes they might make!.
The great players play solos and everyone can appreciate their wonderful tone and feeling!.
So if you turn TV on, you can see only soloists, and orchestra members, who you can't judge because they play like 30 of them simultaneously!. Therefore violin equals soloists!.

PIANO:
When it comes to piano, the crappy players have better chance to get their playing ''out'' since piano isn't a fretless string instrument like violin, in no way can you produce an ear-tearing tone (well you can, but not accidentally)!. Such player have often the opportunity to play in some pop groups, but also quite rarely!. The decent players play in maaany groups and on many occasions so everybody can hear them!. They play a few chords and rhythm sections, the band plays, the singer sings, everyone is happy!.
Really great players!.!.!.!.everyone knows those guys who play in orchestras and perform the most difficult classical pieces or the jazz-guys like Oscar Peterson, right!? So when it comes to piano, most people think of those virtuosos!.!.!.!.why!?!? because in fact, ''piano'' is used for the acoustic instrument, and for the electric one most people use ''keyboards'', so when someone says ''piano'', the acoustic one comes to mind!.!.!.and who plays it!?!?!?

GUITAR:
I'll divide it into two:
A, ACOUSTIC and SPANISH:
So the crappy players have it easy!.!.!.!.they learn a few chords, learn to alternate between them and play at a barbecue party, the girls sing, maybe one falls in love with the guy and everyone is happy! (didn't I say that!?!?!.!.!.LOL!.!.!.This sounds as a soup opera or a fairy tale!.!.!.sorry about that)!.
The decent ones can play some simple blues or country (if it's not too complicated) and the likes!.
The really good ones dig into classical music and flamenco!.!.!.both being BLOOOODY hard to play on guitar, believe me!.
But who comes to mind!?!?!.!.!.Well, by all the folks I know, it's mostly those crappy ones, who play by barbecue!.!.!.and seldom also someone recalls the flamenco players!.
B,ELECTRIC:
Those crappy ones have it greeeeeeat!! Not only they can have the chicks, but also the fame!!! YES! Now look at Linkin Park!. Bred Delson can't play anything!.!.!.ANYTHING!!!.!.!.and I don't know!.!.Tokio Hotel, Rammstein and so on!. So do you know anyone (a youngster) who has never heard of them!?!?!?
The decent players can play blues, rock and metal and so on!. For example, Slash is for me a decent player - a guy who does what he does well, but nothing really special (unless it comes to portamento/string bending!.!.!.!.then he's horrible)!. He has had a lot of good ideas, though!.
The greatest players!.!.!.let me name a few!.!.!.well everyone knows Jimi Hendrix, but not many know WHY he is famous (I know such folks)!.!.!.and ever some guitarists don't know why he is so admired (it's not the speed jerks, it's the other aspects that are much more important!.!.!.tone, ideas, feeling, originality, difficulty to be mimmicked and so on blabla)!.!.!.and now!!.!.!.do you know something about Marty Friedman (Megadeth), Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions), John McLaughlin, Eric Clapton (who has build his reputation upon tenderness and sweetness, the qualities which aren't usually ascribed to electric guitar), Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Eric Johnson, Steve Hackett, Steve Lukather (TOTO), Jason Becker!?!?!?!.!.!.!.Well, you probably have heard of Clapton, but no one knows how well he really plays!.!.!.!.the others!.!.!.!.hmmm MEGADETH!?!?!? That's a bunch of noise!.!.!.NO WAY!!.!.!.!.nonsense, that's one of the most intelligent rock bands of all time!.!.!.especially when it comes to guitars!.
Again, the decent blues guys in clubs are unknown to everyone, the great guys are known only to guitar community, WHEREAS the bands with the crappy ones are known to almost everyone who was dumb enough to turn MTV on!

And then!.!.!.!.there are mentally ill Christian fundamentalists who try to ban heavy metal bands (PMRC, the situation in Poland etc!.) because of explicit lyrics (sex, violence, occult and satanic themes)!.!.!.!.those are mostly false accusations!.!.!.e!.g!. Black Sabbath!.!.!.!.I'm their fan and have never heard any satanic verse in their songs!!!.!.!.the same thing with Iron Maiden!.!.!.!.The Number of the Beast!?!?!?!.!.!.well those verses are from Bible (Revelations) and so on and so on!.!.!.!.
So why don't you finally open the Bible and don't look what's in there!?!?!?!?

Therefore, guitar playing is heavy metal, heavy metal is evil, heavy metal is sin, and thanks to the stupid MTV, heavy metal is LINKIN PARK!!! That's why guitar is by the majority of population underrated!. This is especially true in countries where there is lack of jazz music scene and classical music is ''DA BEST''!.!.!.e!.g!.
