Question: Using les paul middle pickup selector!?
I always thought that both pickups were individually controlled even in the middle pickup position!. Now I've learned that they are related to each other!. My question then which volume and tone knob do I use to shape my sound!? Do I have to keep them at the same level!? Or could I just control everything with my neck volume!? My bridge volume!? thanks!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think you want to know which knob controls which function on a Les Paul when both pick-ups are active!. The 2 knobs closest to your feet control the bridge pick-up!. The one towards the neck is the volume the one towards the bridge (back) is the tone!. The 2 knobs above them are for the neck pick-up!. The volume and tone are in the same places as the other pick-up!.The bridge pick-up is more biting than the mellower neck pick-up!. Any combination of levels will work!. Its up to you ,your ears and your imagination!. Here's a good one to get you started!. Both volume's at full!. The neck tone all the way off!. The bridge tone all the way up!. Sounds cool with both on but if you either hit a chord or hammer on between two notes flip the toggle control up and down!. Its like a "yum- yum" pedal sort of sound!.lol Have fun!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you have two pickups and one switch, then it will either select the neck, the bridge, or both!. If you have three knobs, then one knob controls the neck volume, one knob controls the bridge volume, and one knob controls overall tone!.

If your guitar has four knobs, usually two are for volume and two for tone, one for each pickup respectively!.

It's important to know how your volume and tone knobs affect your tone, all I can say is to expiriment!. I usually roll a little volume and tone off, it seems to fatten up my sound a little bit!. I've raised/lowered my pickups so that they're more or less balanced in output, too!. There's a lot of customizing you can do to zero in on your preferred tone - I've found that having the pickups at different volumes changes the sound greatly when the selector switch is in the middle position, for instance!.
