What dance moves do you have to know to get into a Musical Theatre major?

Question: What dance moves do you have to know to get into a Musical Theatre major!?

I am an acceptable dancer!. Probably intermediate, but I work hard and can pick things up quickly!. I want to major in MT in college, but what will be expected in college auditions!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have always thought a strong base in Broadway jazz, Contemporary jazz and tap are wise choices for auditions!. An understanding of Jazz Ballet and acro may also be worthwhile but in audition I have always found that attitude and presentation are the most important aspects of dance!.

Ah I just saw your attachment!. When I auditioned for my course, we did a large amount of corner work!. We did step, step, leap, Jetee combinations off both feet!. Step, step, turn combinations and a combination set of step, step, stag leap, step, jetee, step, step!.

Following this, a routine was taught to us; the original broadway choreography of 'A Chorus Line's' Opening number!. This will not occur in your audition, but I am quite sure that the combination will be relatively simple and call for a large amount of attitude and expression!.

It depends on the college- some expect you to already know a lot, others believe you're in the program to LEARN (that's what school is for, after all)!.

Most I think will want you to know basic Broadway style Jazz and soft shoe and basic tap dancing!. Not sure what else because most musical theater auditions are most concerned with your vocal performance skills!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It helps if you have been taking dance since you were a child, especially if you want to do, Musical Theater, Broadway, etc!. It's too soon to worry about college auditions!.
Finish college first and then worry about college auditions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
