Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Hmmm, depends how quickly to pick up at how much you practice!. It took me 4 months!. Usually takes around 6 months! But is totally worth the time and effort!! Best of luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com That depends on how you define "learn to play" acoustic guitar!. In one sense, yes -- if you put in the time to practice every day, you can learn 3 or 4 or half a dozen basic chords in 6 months or so (maybe a little less if you practice more or have some particular aptitude) and be able to strum along with some simple 2 or 3 chord folk songs by the end of that time!. But if you want to really PLAY, like Muriel Anderson, or Doc Watson, or Michael Hedges, or Tony Rice, or Norman Blake, or Robert Johnson or Eric Clapton or (fill in your favorite guitarist's name here) -- you can reasonably expect it to take YEARS of dedicated study and practice!. To be able to play any song you want in whatever key, to play by ear and improvise fluently in whatever style of music you want to play, to sight-read fluently, and understand the structure of music so that the guitar becomes a tool for you to create your own musical expression instead of just replicating someone else's tabbed out ideas -- will most likely occupy your time and attention for the rest of your life!. Because learning guitar (or any instrument) isn't a destination, its a journey!. No matter how good you may get, you realize that there is ALWAYS more to learn!.
