Question: How difficult is it to get into a conservatory of music!?

im thinking of trying to get into san francisco's conservatory of music, im only 16 and have been playing trombone for about 2 years or a little lesss than 2 yearsWww@QuestionHome@Com

The one thing about performing arts is, you have to AUDITION for anything and everything!. If you have talent and you think you can play really well!.!.!. then apply to any music conservator and get on their audition list!. NOBODY get's into anything dealing with music, without AUDITIONING first!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It would be tough!. Not impossible; I have no idea how gifted you are!. The best person to ask would be your private teacher (you do have one, right!? If you don't, I'd say "ain't gonna happen") You'll be competing for a limited number of trombone spots against people who've been playing 4 years longer than you have!. That being said, go for it, because it's the only way to know where you really stand!. Your teacher can help you formulate an appropriate "Plan B" "Plan C" etc!. to get you to your career goals (and what are those exactly!?)Www@QuestionHome@Com

If you've got the skill and commitment then I think you can do it!. I'm not from America so it might be a bit different for you!. I auditioned for the university in my state when I had been playing trombone for 4 years up against people who had been playing for 7 or 8 WITHOUT ever having had a private teacher!. I got a the email 6 days later telling me I was accepted, while most people wait 1-2 months!. So don't listen to that person saying that you have no chance if you haven't had private lessons!. Most of the time they can see raw talent!. I'm not sure if you have to do other things such as an interview, portfolio or exam but as long as you ace them you should be fine!. I just made sure that I put everything into what I was playing on the day, and they kinda sensed the emotion!. If you tell them how long you've been playing for and show them how far you've come that can't hurt either!. Just don't listen to people that doubt you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
