Question: French horn mouthpiece- cleaning!?
I play the trumpet, and I recently acquired a french horn that I am learning to play!. i know it is safe to boil a trumpet mouthpiece, but does the same apply to the french horn!?

Any suggestions!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both mouthpieces are brass with a thin nickle plate!. Boiling will do nothing bad to them at all!.!.!. leave them in for hours if you wish!. I would use a brush on them first, boil them out and then use the brush again!.
Aside from the physical cleaning of them boiling isn't going to do much!. They will have zero germs on them when you take them out but that will change as soon as you toot a note!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

why would anyone want to answer that questionWww@QuestionHome@Com

I'm pretty sure they have brushes for brass mouthpieces at most music stores!? I've also seen a spray on disinfectant!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ok!.!.!.!. I'm chuckling!.!.!.!.!. My daughter plays french horn, so I asked her this question!. Her response: "Uhhh!.!.!.with a french horn mouth piece brush!." I asked, "What about sterilizing it!?" Her brilliant answer was: "Uhhhhh!.!.!.!. we have spray stuff in band!.'' Perhaps she still has a few things to learn before we invest in her own horn, instead of renting!.

I hope you find a better answer than this!.

(PS!.!.!.!. she is actually an excellent horn player!. She just, evidently, doesn't know much about keeping the thing clean!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com
