Congratulations on buying a first guitar!.

A beginner steel-string acoustic should cost you no more than $300, and no less than $150!. I recommend Yamaha, they make quality guitars that are fairly affordable!.

If you buy one used, you save money, and it is broken in for you!. It may have some cosmetic damage, but the sound is usually superior, and will have a lot more personality!. (think SRV, his guitars were pawn shop guitars with heavy damage, but they had personality and style!.) (Edit: in response to famo: that's only a concern with electric guitars, acoustic guitars have no moving parts to screw up, other than the tuning heads!.)

You should expect to pay around $200!. I would strongly recommend buying a new one from a reputable music store, so you can have them make sure it's set up correctly!. I know very few people who bought used pawn shop guitars who were happy with them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
