I am a strings teacher and I play all of the stringed instruments!.

Don't worry about frets - beginning bass you will probably have tapes on your instrument to help "guide" your fingers!. It's a different feel but you will get used to it!.

The music reads the same!. Be aware that some fingerings are different and you need to follow them closely in order to adjust quickly!.

Bowing and posture is another issue!. You will be starting from scratch with this!. I would suggest beginning private double bass lessons this summer to catch up on technique before attempting to play high school level music on the double bass!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you wont have frets to guide you for one,

it's probably harder to get up and down the board with it on its side and all!.

reading music should not be a prob!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Ask James Limborg on YOUTUBE!.com

he has been playing guitar for 25 yrs and do a search of his name on youtube, he answers all questions very quickly!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It would be a bit of a jump but your knowledge of bass guitar would be useful!. The notes are in the same positon on the fingerboard on both instruments but you won't have any frets to guide you on the double bass

You will also have to learn how to bow!. I assume the school orchestra plays classical music !? Bowing can be quite difficult at first but you will soon learn how to do it!. It is a very cool sound once you learn how!.

Don't be worried about not having any frets ; you will soon find your way around the fingerboard using your ears to guide you!.

I used to play the bass guitar when I was younger!. Now, I learn the violin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
