Position:Home>Performing Arts> Major singing problem!?!?!?!?!?!?

Question:Okay, so when I'm singing a certain style of song (like pop/rock), all of a sudden my throat will develop this major strain (not pain) and tightness then I'll cough. A sip of water and then I'm fine - for about three minutes - then it happens again. I know I'm not singing too often - only REALLY a half hour every other day or so. So what's wrong? PLEASE HELP!!!! Maybe you are straining your own voice to sing good. The cough drops might work but you are not going to be bothered to eat that every time you sing so here is what i think you should do.

you should train your voice to sing those certain type of song. rock is sometimes very high pitched so when it comes to that part and your voice screech and cracks, practice that part by singing high pitched.
sing "do rae mi far sol la ti do!!" as high as you can go but don't strain yourself to go as high as possible. practice it everyday. effort is the most important thing to accomplish something. practice as much as possible. then your voice would get used to lots of notes that you have never tried before then it'll be more easier to sing those parts you have troubles with and also with other notes that you were fine with. your singing voice would get smoother and very good after you practice this.

i hope this had helped you.

you should try buying this like cough drops i dont remember the name i currently ran out and gave the bottle to my mom so that she could be me some more. your voice will do that alot, i sing too and only with certain songs my throat just aagghh! but i told my teacher about it and she gave me this little bottle its somehting like throat langerines or something like that. they work reallly good.

This kind of slight pain or discomfort when singing should be interpreted as a warning from your body: you should check your technique if you don't want it to get worse and become something serious.

The singing physiology is really complex. You can tell by the huge variety of sounds a single person can make, and that's because all the different structures involved in the process.

Try to find an specialist and good luck!

Take some voice lessons. Focus your singing energy in front of your mouth, not in your throat.
