I've been playing flute for about six seven years now and I would recommend that you could find a tutor.
too often self taught people develop these things that when trying to pursue a professional career just ruins things because the longer you're doing the something wrong, the more time it will take to correct it.

but if you just want to do it casually pick up some method books...
I recommend the Trevor Wye, books on playing the flute.

Reading your music and practicing whenever you have the chance. Practice certainly makes perfect!
