Whats the best way of going about finding a guitar instructor in my area?

Question:I dont necessarily want to just go to Craigslist and go to some guys house who says he's going to teach me guitar...are there any websites that do reviews on guitar teachers? Im an intermediate player who would like formal lessons..Thanks for all your help!

Go to the music department of a nearby college or university. If they offer a guitar major, you might post an ad on their bulletin board asking for a guitar major to give you lessons. Those students should know their stuff, and they'll work a little cheaper in most cases. Alternatively, ask the department secretary if any faculty there would refer you to a good teacher.

Second option: go to the big music store in your city--the one that sells a full range of band, orchestra, and rock instruments--they probably offer lessons, and the biggest store is the one where all the best teachers want to work. Will be a little more expensive, though.

How did you become an "intermediate" player without going to a teacher? and I don't know why you are adverst to Craigslist...

Check with a local music store and see if they have anyone they can recommend... but that isn't always a good way. I've seen a lot of so called "teachers" that I can play circles around.. so, before you hire someone... have them PLAY for you... if you think you play better than they do... keep looking.

You go to your local music store in your neighborhood.
They have rooms inside the store where the Guitar & Drum Teachers teach the students. Mind you...Guitar Teachers arent cheap. You will pay around $20 for half hour and
$40 for a full hour...same goes for Drum teachers too.

Also, your local High School and College Campuses have Guitar Classes too. I took a guitar class back in 1985 for like a $40 fee. Then I dropped it because my guitar was stolen.
