Question:what is the difference between pitch and key in music terms?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: what is the difference between pitch and key in music terms?

Pitch is a specific note. It can also be used to refer to a person's ability to sing or play in tune, ex. "He has a good sense of pitch."

"Key" is the tonality of of a piece, ex. the "E major." It is not simply a group of notes. For example, E F# Bb and C form a group of notes, but not a key. The key signature of a piece refers to the sharps or flats of the tonality of the piece. The number or sharps or flats depends on the scale the key is based on. For example, to write a piece in G major, the composer would note that there is an F# in the key signature- the G major scale is G A B C D E F# G.

Pitch is one specific note.

Key is a group of notes, key of C for example:
CDEFGABC.
