Position:Home>Performing Arts> Does a pianist who practices hours every day develop callouses the same way a gu

Question:Hmm I'm not sure how a person would get callouses, the keys are smooth (unlike the thin metal strings you press down on a guitar)... only time I got sore fingers from playing the piano was when I play too many glissando's...then my back of my thumb hurts.

No, the guitar is the one instrument that gives you the worst looking callouses, (cello players have them too) I've had them as deep as a half an inch....and they do not look attractive, I've never seen a piano player have callouses like a guitarist !!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think you have to worry about developing calluses they are more of a problem for string players.

After 30 years of playing, I've never had a callous on my fingers that I could say came from piano. In college, when practicing for my senior recital, I practiced about 6 hours a day.... still never developed a callous.

Don't think so! My daughter's mom practiced hours a day for many years, and had sore fingers for sure but never calluses
