Basically, yes. However, you probably want a cable that is designed well and can be repaired. Don't get cables with plastic molding at the ends (ie, Monster) if you want the most value for your buck.

Gold plated, zero corrosion, no resistance blah blah blah is all a waste of money. People have shown that lamp cable is just as good as Monster cable, for instance.

I specifically would not get Monster - they die too easily. Every Monster cable I've purchased for guitar has died within a year of purchase.

By contrast, the Rapco cables that I buy can be repaired, and none have failed me yet, over as many as three years of use. And they cost less than those stupid Monster cables.

If you're running long lines of cable (more than 10') then you may want a buffer circuit in your guitar or a buffer pedal. This will help by lowering the impedance of the signal. Low output impedance means less or no treble loss.

If I haven't made the point, don't buy Monster. I mean, if you want to spend money on something that is more likely to fail and can't be repaired and doesn't sound any better than lamp cable, then go for it. By contrast, if you get something that can be repaired you can salvage it if it fails - all it takes is a little soldering skill, usually. The shop that sold them to you may repair them for free, too. If you're really concerned about sound, get a buffer pedal to save your treble.

For instrument? If your talking about a guitar effect pedal into a amp use another instrument cable.
