I am a professional flutist, certified teacher, and competition judge in NY. The hardest thing to learn is the embouchure - how to position your mouth so that you can get a decent tone. The fingerings are not hard at all. You need a good teacher at the BEGINNING the most, so you learn correctly and do not get discouraged.

Nope...If you transition from closed to open, then it is. But other than that, it's not hard at all.
