Position:Home>Performing Arts> Where can I find songs to play in public without paying for royalty fees?

Question:I wanted to make a slideshow type thing where I have background music to photos, but I don't want to have to pay for playing them.
Is there a site that lists songs that are in "public domain" or something that are ok to play in public- without having to get permission or have to pay to play them?

If this is something that is just for your enjoyment and will not be used for profit, you're pretty safe using any material. Copyrights are primarily to prevent someone's material from being used on some project where the project's creator is going to make some sort of profit.

This is why singers don't have to pay a royalty fee to sing a published song at an audition, but would need to do so if doing the song in a cabaret act.

Believe it or not if you click on the clips online section is MS Word it will take you to their office online stuff where you can obtain royalty free music.
