Question:what is mezzo pitched? I was watching one of Dame Shirley Bassey’s Videos and this is what I read ;
"Like this arrangement or not, Shirley Bassey still is one of the most powerful mezzo pitched female vocalists in the world."

Also known as mezzo-soprano ((meaning "medium" or "middle" "soprano" in Italian), It is a female voice similar in range to a soprano, but with a darker color and the ability to extend the range lower than a regular soprano. A mezzo's range usually extends from the A below middle C to the A two octaves above. In the lower and upper extremes, some mezzo-sopranos may extend down to the G below middle C (G3) and as high as "high C" (C6).

In general mezzos are broken down into three categories: Coloratura mezzo-sopranos, Lyric mezzo-soprano, and Dramatic mezzo-sopranos.
