Here's the thing: auditions for most professional shows are closed to anyone except union members (Actors' Equity, or Screen Actors' Guild, or American Federation of Television and Radio Artists--all three accept each other's members).

You may go to their websites to find membership requirements--VERY expensive and you must have experience in professional productions.

That's right--you can't be a member unless you do professional shows, and almost no professional shows will let you audition unless you're a union member.

The best way to start a theatrical career is to finish a BFA program at a top university (some of them, like Yale School of Drama, used to grant a union membership upon graduation).

If that's out of the question, then you need to sign up for professional acting workshops (find them in the trades, like Playbill) and network with professional aspirants and with the instructors. Find out where all the open auditions are, and keep doing them and getting rejected until your heart aches. Eventually, if you have the goods, you'll get a professional role and the union will accept your membership payment.

And yes, you can get by without singing, if you can act well enough.

You can check papers and here http://www.playbill.com/jobs/find/ for auditions. Not all Broadway shows {and off-Broadway shows for that matter} are musicals, some are straight plays.
