Position:Home>Performing Arts> What should happen next in my play?

Question:Ok, I'm kind of writing this play at the last minute, so its kind of just rolling along here, I dont really know where its going to end up. Here what I've got so far.
Basically, a boy is playing video games, and his siter walks in with a big box, very heavy. He asks whats in the box, and she says its her new present. When she asks him if he could help her carry it up to her bedroom, he says hes to busy playing video games. Then, to get his attention, she says "Grandma is in the box". Then hes like No Way, dont lie, but shes like "yeah, and grandpa and your cousin.". Then she goes on saying that there is a big red chair in there as well (remember, she is saying this stuff to get her brothers and the audiences attention).
So, What should happen next? The play has to be only 1 act long. Please help me, I want the ending to be twisted, but I cant think of anything! Ideas are greatly appreciated.

then she opens the box a little bit, and then you hear the grandmother crying about the chair, "how Could Brian (the cousin) have Done that to my chair???? Brian, you're getting a spanking now" and Brian screaming like he's being hurt, and "my chest hurts, and no grandma no!".

the sister closes the box, and the brother can only say, "what? I don't get it"
sister says to trust her, the time is right for her to tell him something important, something Big, but they have to get the box to her room so their parents don't find out.

He helps her carry the box into the room, he looks seriously freaked out, she looks very serious.

When they get it to the room, the room is filled with boxes labeled with different family and friend's names (not actually props, he just says "hey! what are all these boxes doing here! That one says Tina, that one says Rover, our first dog!!!! What is going on here!"

Sister says, "I am the keeper of the family secrets. It started when I was 3 and I saw Rover attacking our neighbor's cat. Mom told me that she was the secret keeper, but now it was my turn to keep the secrets, to protect the family from bad memories. I can box up the secrets, and everyone forgets about them. Only the secrets are in the boxes, not the actual people, but if i put something in the box, no one remembers it anymore "

"Today, grandma called me to her house, she was punishing Brian for spilling some chocolate milk on the chair-- she was spanking him with a switch, and he must have had some kind of heart condition, because he clutched his chest and died. I had to box it up and put it away, and bury Brian in her back yard "
The sister has been slowly getting more and more anxious this whole time, and you can tell by the end that she's about to have a breakdown because she can't handle being the secret keeper anymore. At the end, she says, " I don't know what to do, I can't handle this anymore!"

The Brother says, "sister, listen to me! this isn't right! mom had no right to put this on you! This is Sick!" she tries to defend mom, "no, mom Needs me to do this, I HAVE to!!!!!" but he keeps up, "it's killing you!" then a moment passes, and he sits her down and looks right into her eyes, and says: "I am closer to you than anyone else. I love you more than anyone else in the family. I knew our family is twisted, but I didn't know how exactly, and the only way I survive is to escape it and play video games and hang out with my friends all day. I thought you had escaped too, i had no idea you were captured by it. You need to escape too!"
--She let's go of her emotions and sobs, and he cries also.
Then she gets it together and says, "no, brother. I'm strong, all i needed was to have you help me out of this. I'll get us out of this situation little brother. we can't escape this, or we'll spend our whole lives escaping. we have to end this!!!! just promise to stand my be and love me forever, no matter what happens" He says "of Course!"
She goes to another room and gets some box cutters, and they start to tear apart the grandma box and the other boxes.
As they're doing it, you start hear the mother and father start to scream in the other rooms, "NO, NO, IT DIDN'T HAPPEN, NO!!!!", mom saying "it must be sister, WHAT IS SHE DOING??? SISTER!!!!!!" Then really scream. Then 5 or 6 people screaming from the other rooms/outside, "NO!!! WHY????? AUGHHHHH!!!!!!". While brother hugs sister and she comforts him. The end.
----maybe at the beginning of the play, ask for audience participation and for them to scream "NO!!! NOOOO!!" when you signal them.

--note, i had to edit this a few times, i was brainstorming so it came out all garbled. what do you think? the title should be "family secrets" or "the box"

the end

he walks over, opens the box, the sister pushes him in, and the last line of the play, you hear the boy, echoed saying "YOU LIED, IT WAS A BLUE CHAIR!!"

the end

How about...

He says she he will help her if she proves one of the things she said is in the box. She says ok and pulls out Grandma's sweater. 'See' she says 'Grandma is in here' So the boy helps her carry the box upstairs to an empty room with other boxes.
They go back downstairs and Grandma, Grandpa and their cousin is sitting on a red couch. the boy runs back upstairs and opens the box and looks inside. It's empty. The roof opens up and the boy see's himself look inside.

.... The boy is in the box the whole time.

I think that the little brother should still be very uninterested in the box. then when the sister leaves the box alone he looks in it and is sucked into a parallel universe.

The boy should get up and look inside the Box and say. "Hey,There is nothing but Ashes in Here"
And the sister should then put down the box and pull out a box of matches and walk towards her brother and say.
" That's Right..I'm doing a Family Barbecue in a Box,And your Next"
