I play bass also. I am in a local band. Bass really is the instrument of ignorance. It is the easiest instrument to learn but the hardest to master. Which means, most songs are easy to play. To master the bass, you need to learn music theory. You probably could learn almost any song you wanted on bass. Go to 911tabs.com and look up some tablature. A good song that might be hard at first but will teach you a lot of technique would be Dani California by th Red Hot Chili Peppers. The bass player for that band is really good and it is good semi-simple music to start out on.
