I think you will probably find the Queen of the Night's aria from Mozart's "Magic Flute" will give you a pretty good test.

I personally like Mein Herr Marquis in Die Fledermaus. What's nice about it is that not only is it technically challenging but a lot of personality has to go into it.

So apart from being able to sing well and being technically good, your ability to make an impact on your audience is important and for me Mein Herr Marquis would be the challenge.

I've heard "Oh mio babino caro" is quite hard to sing...

O Zittre Nicht and Der Holle Rasch from the Magic Flute should be good for a challenge.

Both reach F three octaves above Middle C - O Zittre Nicht once, and Der Holle Rasch four times.

Try some Puccini - O Mio Babbino Caro, or some Bach.

Good Luck.

It's said one of the most demanding pieces for a soprano to perform well is the Queen of the Night's aria in the Magic Flute by Mozart. Beverly Sills said Mozart must have been taking his own revenge on sopranos when he wrote it. It takes an incredible amount of control to perform successfully.

Listen to Maria Callas from this website. If you register, free, you can listen to the whole song, if not, only a 30 second bite.

This song is guaranteed to make any soprano loose five pounds.
