What you are experiencing is actually very common. Singing isn't actually "speaking" and the musical tone often outweighs accents. In fact, most opera singers are taught to sing phonetically.

Take someone like Jim Nabors (Gomer Pyle if you watch classic TV) -- he naturally has a real southern hard-to-understand high-pitched hillbilly twang, but when he sings, a rich, mellow baritone with perfect diction. Many people who stutter when speaking sing flawlessly.

So, is it normal? Yes, very.

It is very strange.

I'm Spanish but I sing Russian.

I suppose its weird.

i think it's normal. I've heard some British people sing and sound American.

its normal i dont kno y u do that but its normal a lot of people have that problem

No, I think that's normal because your vowels are supposed to sound different when you sing, so it could sound like you have an accent.

You are not enunciating when you sing or you are not opening up your mouth. You have to open up to get the sound to come out clear. A vocal coach can help you break the habit of closing up your palet.

It is possible. It all depends on you vocal cords.
It works for some people, but for some it doesn't. It all depends on your choice of song, the origin of the song, and the tone.

i think its normal. everyones voice is different and sings in a different tone. look at this when brits sing alot of them sound american(not all though) and same goes with other nationalities too. i listen to bands that are finnish and swedish (as well as british) and when they sing in english they sound more american than swedish or finnish (compared to how they speak) on alot of their songs.

For sure its normal. Because when I act in a shakespeare or anything in a time peroid piece I automatically channel a british accent. I have no idea where it comes from but it is truly amazing. When i do regular plays it doesnt come out. So I think it is awesome that you can do both. Kudos to you.

Funny--

I sing country witha southern accent but that's because it sounds lame with california accent. I would have to see/hear you to say if you are actually doing something wrong. It is probably the fact that your pronunciation is heightened when you sing, and you have eliminated the hard R sound, Americans have extremely lazy speech habits that's why when they speak correctly they sound like Frasier and Niles Crane which is probably what you mean by British, but I think it's okay, if it sounds comical I would work on it. Listen to other people sing the same song (people who can sing) see if they have the "british" sound you are hearing in your voice too.

PS to the girl that responded above me, unless you are directed to use a British accent while performing Shakespeare, I would strongly advise cutting that habit, as many directors frown on that, Elizabethan English is much closer to Modern Amercian than the Modern British dialect. It is awesome you can do a Brtish accent but save it for the times you are directed to be British. As many directors will misconstrue this as your inability to perform Shakespeare naturally pulling the David Mamet "Talking in funny voices" thing.
