Position:Home>Performing Arts> Can Amazing Grace be a Canadian song? (Trying out for a talent show...)?

Question:I'm trying out for a talent show at our local library and I can sing amazing grace very well. I was wondering, since it's an american song, if it would be appropriate to sing infront of 400 Canadians... :-)

Amazing Grace is a beautiful and emotional song that cna be sung by anyone, anywhere. If you enjoy singing this song, you should sing it at your talent show. I'm sure you'll do a great job.
Best of luck!

How do you figure it is American? It was written by John Newton, an English Captain of a slave ship, who gave up his profession to become a minister. I would venture to say that this song belongs to the world at this point and that it's message is universal. Sing it with conviction and add it to your permanent working Repertoire as many before you have done.

I think it was written by someone English. Out of curiosity, why would it be wrong to sing an American song? Are we at war or something?

its not a country specific song
