Bass Guitar Distortion?

Question:I want to get the metal sound on bass. Right now I don't use any pedals, but I want to get the Cliff Burton sound. Like he uses in his solos. What pedals does he use? What are good brands of these pedals that won't cost a lot?

Cliff Burton uses a Electro-Harmonix Big Muff distortion pedal, which without question should be the first pedal you purchase. You will not regret it. Do not buy cheap alternatives...there is only one Big Muff. I cannot stress this enough.

He may also use something like EH's "bassballs" twin-envelop filter effect to achieve that sound. This is not nearly as important as the Big Muff.

I don't know about pedals, but a lot of the new VOX amps are good for thats stuff. You can get them and it has all the stuff you need on them. You dont even need pedals for them.
