What Guitar?

Question:My birthday is coming up and i need to pick out a guitar.
I'm somewhat a beginner, and I want one with a good tone, perferably black, good for chords and solos, one i could go to lessons with,
please help.

You probably want electric.....but what I recommend for my beginners is the Yamaha acoustic.....you don't need electric when you can't even play yet, and believe me electric doesn't sound very good until you know how to play it !!!!! Plus you need an amp, etc....so why not just start out with acoustic and see how you do for about two years.....and then go for the electric.....check out the guitars at the Guitar Center, the guitar that I'm talking about runs around $200.00 - $250.00 and even less on sale....don't forget ask for a deal, GC is great for reducing the price....plan to spend a couple of hours in the store and play all the guitars that are in your budget....look for that sound and action that you like....and like I tell everyone here, sometimes they sound different when you bring them home.....but they have a thirty day return policy, good luck to you !!!!!!

you dont say if you want electric or acoustic but probably you want electric right. so how much do you have to spend, 200 dollars? more? less? if you want something very cheap get a used one or a jay turser strat copy, or a hamer slammer they are like $99. but if you have enough it would be best to get something good so that you can have it forever! american fenders or gibsons do not get crappy with age they get better. and worth more money. they are 500 dollars and up though. fender squiers are what everybody gets when they want to get a beginner guitar but there is one problem. they are cheap made and they suck. so look at another brandname instead. i would say hagstrom. they make good ones for a less price then american fenders or washburn or gibson etc.
