I began learning violin at age 35. You just have to be patient ; everybody sounds like rubbish on the violin for the first six months. Practise for one hour EVERY day.
Get a good teacher and buy a violin from a violin shop so that it is set up correctly,

Do NOT buy a violin from ebay or a general music shop !

Here is a useful site to be used in conjunction with your teacher. Click on masterclasses and watch the videos :

It is harder to learn as an adult but it is not impossible. Just don't try and teach yourself violin ; that would be a waste of time. Get a good teacher....Good luck and enjoy.

not at all

my father began playing guitar at age 30 and is incredible now

unless yoyu have some crippling hand diseases it is never too late for music
thats the beauty of it

give it a try

i learned to play guitar well in about two years when i practiced daily

no, my wife didn't learn to play her guitar until she was 25 and now she plays, sings, and writes her own music. its never too late...

It's never to late to do anything!

Go for it!

It's never too late to learn anything and by the way, 18 really isn't that old. So just go for it, if it's something you really want to do you'll have no problem with it.

Good luck!

That old adage is so true....." Your never too old to learn anything", there was a women last year who graduated college in her ninety's.....and I know several people who didn't even pick up a guitar until they were in their thirty's and forty's !!!!!!! So go for it what have you got to lose !!!!!!!! I've played classical guitar for thirty five years, and I'm thinking about giving the violin a try !!!!!!!!!

it's never too late to learn an instrument.

it's just easier when you're younger. :]

It's definitely never too late!!! Having said that though, you'll have an easier time learning the guitar if you're teaching yourself. Things like tone, pitch, and maintaining even strumming is easier on the guitar than it is on the violin as the violin is a much less forgiving instrument as the guitar is.

But . . . if you really want to learn the guitar, take a 1 hour lesson once a week and practice your little heart out. You'll sound fabulous in no time.

the older you get the harder it becomes for your fingers to be able to move properly, you won't be able to move as quickly if you wait until you are too old to start. the brain part you're never too old to start learning. in most cases if you're not way too ambitious you can start when you're much older.

in my opinion 18 is for sure still young enough where you can become really good professionally speaking. but don't wait too much longer.

To be honest, you'll never be a virtuoso - most professional musicians have already had 10 to 15 years of training by the time they reach 18. BUT, you can probably learn to impress your friends and family. Guitar is a lot easier than violin and MUCH cheaper to maintain properly. Go for it. Everyone should play an instrument
