Position:Home>Performing Arts> Looking for solid wood guitar for under/around $500...?

Question:I currently have a Seagull S6, which I like...it sounds great for fingerstyle, but it just doesn't sound great when strummed (i mean it sounds good, but it isn't very, umm...bright...)
Well I can still return the S6 and I'm looking for something under or around $500 with a solid spruce top with solid rosewood back and sides (from what I understand rosewood will give it a warmer tone than something like mahogany...correct me if i'm wrong). I don't want another guitar with laminated back & sides..I already have a cheaper yamaha that is laminated...and I'd really like to get a solid wood guitar.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know...I wish there were some website that had a list of all the guitars and you could just select what you want for materials...so I could see all guitars with solid spruce top and solid rosewood back & sides....but I doubt that'll ever happen.
Thank you in advance...

There are several brands available in the price range that are made of solid wood. I would highly recommend a Peal/TGX dreadnought, known as a D28, modeled after a Martin D28 but $2,000 or so cheaper or whatever. The Peal/TGX is made in Korea but is very well made and comes with a lifetime guarantee; also, the dealer, guitar imports, will refund your money if you are not satisifed with the guitar for any reason. They are not well-known in the US and their guitars are sold for much less than the competition. You can look them up on the Web...I think the Web site is guitarimports.com.
Another solid wood dreadnought in that price range is of course the Alvarez Artwood 800.
You are not likely to see either of those acoustic guitars in the stores because the number of dealers that carry them is limited.
You are wise to get a solid wood guitar. Solid wood improves with age. The opposite happens with laminate. It loosens with age and the guitar loses its tone and may even make body noise such as buzzing.
Rosewood gives a deep warm tone. Mahogany is a brighter, snapper tone. Guitar tops are invariably made of cedar, which is bright, or spruce, which is warm. The really expensive guitars are made of high-quality aged spruce tops.

well i'm not the best at guitars but you could search ebay.

my friend got a really nice one that was hardly used for less than $500 dollars.

whatever you do though, don't get a yamaha.

fenders are pretty good. :]
