Position:Home>Performing Arts> A good bass rhythm for a beginner?

Question:ok, me and my friends are starting a rock band. it is actually for a multi media class. the talent show is in may, and we plan on performing there. the thing is, ive only been playing bass for a week now. our drummer is a very experienced bass player, and i feel really stupid being the bass player. im the least experienced on our band. ive learned alot in 2 week and i just need some good rhythms to get me going. some links to some bass tab would be nice.

and do you think its possible for me to get good enough to play in the talent show in May if i practice a lot??

The rhythms will be different on each song you play. Most often, the bass and plays the same rhythm as the drummer's bass drum. The best rhythms to play would be just copying the drummer. If you can sit/stand where you can see his/her foot, it lets you have a bit of anticipation. If the drummer is playing rhythms too complex for you to copy, try to just simplify what they do, so all of your rhythms still line up with some of theirs.

Mirror the kick. So for a basic rock pattern that's:

quarter note, eighth rest, eighth note, quarter note, quarter rest

As long as you keep your bass lines simple, you should be able to pick up the instrument quickly enough. Good luck!
