I am considering starting a sketch comedy group with a couple people from school

Question:i want about five guys, but, i want to know if a better candidate would be someone serious, or someone who is always joking around? (this may sound like a stupid question, but a serious one might go by the script and not wing it whereas the one who is joking around would laugh and ruin a scene or not follow a script...)

Ummm...there are pros and cons for both types of people. the joker would seem more natural but like you said...could go off script while the serious one would go on script but wouldn't seem as natural.

You need great improvisors. Everyone should be able to write. Have males & females. Develop an exciting dynamic between the players. Don't try to control each other. Let the director call the shots.
