If you want a Gibson Les Paul you can pay from $600-$3000 depending on model and vintage. You can buy the Epiphone Les Paul copies that price from $135-$600. However many companies have their own versions of the Les Paul guitars. One that I love and own is Michel Kelly guitars. Excellent tone quality and are beautiful. Look them up. They make several Les Paul style guitars.Cost $250-$300.
Sam Ash carries Michel Kelly guitars and can package a amp and all the accessories needed to get started. Also Guitar center carries Epiphone Les Paul packages that includes amp.cord,picks,ect. Good Luck.

The various brands and styles really have very different playing qualities and sound. Some are simply harder than others. If you are serious about the investment and about learning how to play you simply MUST goto a shop and try them our first hand. I would also bring a more experienced friend and have them try each one you find interesting.

well, you can always get an Epiphone, but i dont really like those. A good guiar for a beginner would be something that has both single coils and humbucker pickups, to see what you like. I would suggest the links provided at the bottom. Also, ESP makes guitars that look esp-esque, but they are made for more metal players. So take a look at the links, for a start. They are mostly under 200 dollars, so if you turn out you dont like guitar, you dont waste 800 dollars. I dont suggest buying a guiar off the internet, though, so find these guitars at a store like Guiar center and try them to see if you like them at all.
